A handful of TTB’s made the long trek for the River Cities Triathlon near Shreveport, Louisiana. It’s a long drive, but I hear it’s a worthwhile trip. Rumor has it that the swag bag is worth more than the entry fee. You know a race is good when it sells out (at a whopping 1200 participants) months before race day every year. This race has been around for 32 years, and none other than Lance Armstrong holds the course record-set way back in 1988 (so he gets to keep his trophy). Now, about the race---The race is held at Cypress Black Bayou Recreation and Conservation Park. It is a sprint distance a little heavy on the swim (800 meter swim, 18.2 bike, and 5k run). A plus to this race is the awards go deep in larger age groups. If you are in an age group with 100 people they give trophies to the top six; but if you’re in an age group with 15 people they only give awards for 1st and 2nd place. The only negative ever chattered about at this race is the wave start for the swim. I hear there is lots of kicking and clawing in the water.
TTB Renee Hill won her age group… again! Watching her pass twenty people the last 200 meters is exciting. She’s in competition mode lately. Watch out folks! Ellisa Brown was still hobbling a little (a lot) on that injured foot (you should have seen her coming out the water after the swim), but it sure didn’t slow her down on the bike. She averaged 21.2mph, which is the third best of her age group of 44 people. Other Ticking Tri Bombs racing were Scott Hawkins 8/100 in AG, Cissy Hare, and Susan Linn. Susan came out the swim right after Renee. This group said they would be going back next year for sure, so some more of you ought to join em!
